This setup is recommended when you want to use both:

• The Blue Iris mobile app for local Blue Iris playback
• Camlocus for cloud alerts, remote access, and motion event storage

In this setup, Blue Iris keeps local recordings in BVR format, while Camlocus receives motion alert videos through per-camera FTP alert uploads.

Important

Do not use Blue Iris global FTP Backup for this setup.

Use:

• BVR format for Blue Iris local recordings
• FTP alert video upload configured separately for each camera
• Camlocus Alerts page to view uploaded motion events

Step 1 — Use BVR Format in Blue Iris

In Blue Iris, open the camera settings and go to:

Camera Settings → Record → File format and compression

Select:

BVR (Blue Iris DVR, allows reading while writing)

This is required if you want to use the Blue Iris app together with Camlocus.

BVR is the recommended format for Blue Iris local recording and playback.

Step 2 — Disable Global FTP Backup

Do not use the global Blue Iris FTP Backup method for this setup.

In Blue Iris, make sure FTP backup is disabled in:

Settings → Storage → New → FTP Backup

Disable:

Use FTP to backup clips to the Internet

Also make sure that global clip backup is not used for sending videos to Camlocus.

Step 3 — Configure FTP Video Upload Per Camera

FTP video upload must be configured separately for each camera.

Open each camera in Blue Iris and configure alert video upload from the camera alert settings.

Use the Camlocus FTP credentials for that specific camera.

You can find the FTP credentials in Camlocus:

Camera → Actions → Details → Video Configurations → FTPS

Each camera must upload its own alert videos using its own Camlocus camera configuration.

Step 4 — Configure Alert Video Filename

For the FTP alert video filename, use:

&CAM.%Y%m%d_%H%M%S%t.%001

This filename format allows Camlocus to correctly process the uploaded alert video.

Do not manually add an .mp4 extension if Blue Iris already handles the video extension automatically.

Step 5 — Verify Camlocus Camera Settings

In Camlocus, open:

Camera → Actions → Edit → Settings → Video Icon

Set:

Motion Detection Type: FTP Video

This tells Camlocus that uploaded FTP videos should be processed as motion alert videos and shown in the Alerts page.

Step 6 — Test the Setup

Trigger motion in front of the camera.

Then verify:

• Blue Iris records locally in BVR format
• Blue Iris app playback works correctly
• Camlocus receives the uploaded alert video
• The alert appears in Camlocus → Alerts

Result

After this setup:

• Blue Iris keeps its own local recording system using BVR
• Blue Iris mobile app continues working normally
• Camlocus receives motion alert videos through FTP
• Camlocus displays uploaded motion events in the Alerts page

This setup avoids compatibility problems caused by using MP4 files for both Blue Iris local playback and Camlocus alert uploads.
