Recommended Blue Iris Settings

These settings are recommended when using Blue Iris with Camlocus.

The goal is to keep streaming stable, reduce bandwidth usage, and make motion clips compatible with Camlocus.

Camera Short Name

Use Camlocus Camera ID in Blue Iris camera short name.

Format:

      ID-123

Replace 123 with the actual Camlocus Camera ID.

You can find it in:

Camlocus -> Cameras -> ID column

Recording Format

Recommended file format:

      MP4

Recommended video compression:

      Direct-to-disk

Avoid unnecessary re-encoding inside Blue Iris unless required.

FTP Motion Clips

Enable:

      Queue new clips for backup

Disable:

      Combine or cut video

Recommended:

      After upload: Delete file

This prevents local disk usage from growing too much after clips are uploaded to Camlocus.

RTMPS Live Streaming

Use RTMPS Stream when continuous live view or 24/7 cloud recording is required.

Recommended Camlocus settings:

      Video Source: RTMPS Stream
      Record Stream: Yes
      Transcoding: Yes
      Playback: 7 Days

FTP Video Motion Detection

Use FTP Video when motion events should appear in Camlocus Alerts.

Recommended Camlocus setting:

      Motion Detection Type: FTP Video

AI Detection

If using CodeProject AI with Blue Iris, enable AI confirmation in Blue Iris alerts.

Recommended hardware:

      NVIDIA GPU

Preferred example:

      RTX A2000

AI detection helps reduce false alerts and allows Camlocus to display detected object labels.

Performance Recommendations

Recommended:

  • use sub-streams where possible
  • use H.264 for compatibility
  • avoid very high bitrate unless needed
  • use direct-to-disk recording
  • keep camera time synchronized
  • avoid unnecessary resizing in Webcast settings

For better quality/performance ratio, disable this when using Blue Iris Webcast:

Resize output frame width x height
